Two Cents - Your Two Cents!

In a meeting with BP, President Obama has demanded that the company set-up an escrow account that will pay damage claims to residents of the affected areas in a "fair, efficient and transparent" manner. In addition, the President is set to address the nation in primetime tomorrow night that will focus on the crisis in the Gulf.

Question: What do you want to hear from President Obama in his address about the oil spill in the Gulf?

The President better get his ass in gear and fix this!

Government at it's best!!!
written by Trader Guy, June 14, 2010
He needs to admit that there is not a person in his cirle of Chicago co-horts that have any idea what to do or how to do it. Therefore he must defer to the experts and stop acting like an elemtary school principle and putting the CEO of BP in "timeout" If there were people in the government that had the needed knowledge and then equipment then this would have already been done. Reduce the red-tape for assistance to those affected and help as much as you can to get this re-solved. Oh, by the way be honest to the US people about how much oil has really been getting into the gulf each day. But then again transparent is not a virtue that this white house has.

I think the president [what a joke!] and all of his cronies need to butt out and give a clear "Go ahead" signal to BP and the United States people! We CAN fix this!!! I also think people from all over our country need to flock to the Gulf States to clean birds and animals. The oil spills I have been around in past years, citizen volunteers saved the birds and animals. WHERE are they now? We, as individuals and as a country, went to Haiti, Indonesia, anywhere in the world where help was needed and we helped. WHERE is everyone now?
There are many bright minds that can fix this, and should have long before now if their hands had not been tied. What about the microbes that eat the oil? So many tested and real things that have not been used. I blame the Greeners for causing this in the first place. If the wells had been allowed closer to shore in less deep water, this would not have happened!!!! We need to DRILL NOW, not put a pause on drilling. DRILL MORE! DRILL close to shore. Drill on shore. Drill in ANWR. DRILL, BABY, DRILL! I want us to be independent of foreign oil! NOW!! ASAP! Use ALL of the other alternatives, too, of course, on our own soil and in our own oceans... NOW!!

Clearly, the "professionals" have failed us.
I'll answer the question, in lieu of more partisan politics, avoidance, and denial.
What I want to hear is:
1. How are we going to address the damages done to the environment, economy, and people?
2. How are we going to best improve regulation and enforcement to try to minimize the probability of this type of thing occurring again?
3. Are we finally going to face reality about our energy issues?

In other words...Deal with it. We did with the Bush's.
American President to meet with British Petroleum CEO re: Louisianna oil spill
written by David French, June 14, 2010
The President has to give a deadline to halt the oil spill or Obama will take over the operation. They can save their oil well if expedient or else it has to stop. It's amazing, we can end the Desert Storm in days and it takes monthe to stop an oil spill. Something fishy is going on, if there are any left in the Gulf. Stop the spill, at all costs!
Congrats to you "patriots".

What the f---!!! You people are so racist and anti-American yourselves, you don't know what the hell you're talking about. Our President can't do it all by himself. If the Republicans in Washington and elsewhere would work together with the administration to fix our problems instead of blocking progress at every turn, maybe something WOULD get done. He can't fix all the Republican screw-ups by himself. And most of the politicians (Republicans) that are in the pockets of Big Oil have an interest in the outcome of this. Most of the judges down there are aligned with the oil companies, and the few that aren't are so scared of the others that they would not dare go against them or BP!!
And by the way, Tony Hayward is an a--hole. He says we can get shrimp other places. Well, I certainly can get my gas, oil, etc, from ANYBODY BUT BP!!!!! And that politician who said this is not an environmental disaster needs to take a trip down to the area and see what an enviromental disaster looks like. How do these idiots get elected, anyway? We need to develop clean, renewable energy ASAP, and can the fossil fuels before we destroy our planet any further!!!

Would you really prefer that McCain and Palin be the ones trying to deal with this? McCain's response would probably be something along the lines of "I know how to stop this leak, and if you'll just vote for my re-election in 2012 I'll show you how we can stop this leak my friends."

Palin has already weighed in with her response ... it's the environmentalists fault that we had to drill in such deeps waters. This is obviously where Carol got her talking points!

Good grief, get a grip people. Like McCain, you are sore losers who care more about your own bruised egos than you do about our country. You're either part of the solution or part of the problem. Fighting the president on everything he tries to do will not "solve" anything, so I guess we see what part the Repulicans are playing in our country's problems. They're only cabale of offering criticism instead of solutions. Pathetic.

Just wondering where was the anger and critisum when Bush was destroying this country? The American people allowed Bush to rip this country apart, cause a war for personal revenge and very little outcry and disapproval was displayed. How can you fix a country with so many broken parts? President Obama, YES President Obama not Obama did not cause the U.S. problems. He inherited them! So let’s allow him a fair amount of time to address our country’s problems.

What happened to all those Palin butt sniffing wingnuts who were coached to chant the moronic 20th century "drill baby drill" mantra? Oh yah, they are wriggling their oil coated feathers and with all their strength in their dying hours are complaining about President Obama. Golden.

I am hoping that the President will use this tragic event as another watershed defining moment of his Administration to really transition us to a green economy based on renewables. This will take tremendous political capital, but he appears to be taking initial steps:

"The time has come, once and for all, for this nation to fully embrace a new future. That means continuing our unprecedented effort to make everything -- from our homes and businesses to our cars and trucks -- more energy-efficient. It means rolling back billions of dollars of tax breaks to oil companies so we can prioritize investments in clean energy research and development.

Many businesses support this agenda because shifting to clean energy creates opportunities for entrepreneurship. This is how we will reinvent our economy -- and create new companies and new jobs all across the country.

There will be transition costs and a time of adjustment. But if we refuse to heed the warnings from the disaster in the Gulf -- we will have missed our best chance to seize the clean-energy future we know America needs to thrive in the years and decades to come."

There is enough oil under the Rockies to sustain this country for over 2000 years at our present rate of increase. It can be had at 16 dollars a barrel with the oil companies making their current percentage of profit. I want to hear Obama say he will make sure all obstacles are removed so we can drill there and that all obstacles will be removed to allow distilleries to be built here so the oil can be both obtained and processed in the US. Drill, baby drill...but in the Rockies.

So instead of destroying our shores you prefer that we destroy the Rockies? How does that make us better off? What part of "clean and renewable" energy are you not understanding? The only viable future we have is with clean and renewable energy. Did anyone ever stop to think that all of these billions of gallons of oil sitting below our earth's crust may actually be serving a purpose, like perhaps cooling and lubrication? Hmmm... increases in volcanos, earth quakes, and giant sink holes ... could just be a coincidence, but who can say for sure? Try draining the oil out your car, and see how long it lasts once all the oil is gone!

Prices Hurt We The People

I just wanna hear President Obama say that we the people have no control on this oil spill situation so therefore we shouldnt have to suffer with gas and oil prices going out of control. When prices go up due to these circumstances it only hurts [who] we the people and that is unfair to us. Those are the issues i want to hear addressed. Remember we have other supplies to keep us going on a daily basis than to have to spend all our hard earned monies on oil and gas. Thinkabout it summer is here and people wanna travel and when we travel there goes hotel accommodations and then oil changes and gas prices increase can hurt a persons travel plans and when this happens everyone hurts because people start saying no to traveling. No travel means no spending on gas and oil. Thanks and i pray i get the answer i am looking forward to tomorrow nite.

Personally, I would like the President to announce that ALL off shore drilling will be halted, (shallow & deep water), until ALL safety issues can be insured for the people working on the site & to stop another oil spill. The engineers should go back to the drawing board to protect our environment, (what's left of it), & all personnel.
Long-term solution for the future
written by Mark G, June 14, 2010
What happened to the Red Adare spirit. It seems unbelievable that a leak like this has defeated the best brains of our society. The US Govt needs to set a strong example and mandate that further drilling needs to have proven means of remedying leaks BEFORE DRILING STARTS - our mission-critical computer systems have backup and contingency measures - our aircraft have parachutes, oxygen masks and safety slides. Where are the safety measures in the oil industry?? This is not the first time our wildlife and shores have been subject to devastation - it has to be the last!! Why are we employing obviously desperate measures of firing golf balls and lumps of rubber to try and plug a hole - how technological and scientific is that?. Could we not simply use a huge capped cylindrical pipe whacked in around the rig with a hydraulic ram - or would that be too simplistic!

No, I do not want to hear another thing out of his mouth! He only talks a good game-do as I say, not as I do; spend money, and creates more of a tax burden.

Mr. Craig White and some others need to get the facts straight – there were constant complaints and criticism under GW. I guess President Obama better be able to man up to the same treatement! Oh, by the way the racial thing does not work either, Obama is caught up in his own agenda, which is not transparent, no matter the race, and it does not appear to be for the good of all Americans!

What do I want to hear from the President? Forget all the talk about who is he going to get sued and who he can blame and concentrate RIGHT NOW on the correct people for stopping the leak and helping the poor soles in the areas affected making sure they get totally compensated for now and in their futures. After that, then take up with what to do about better safety precautions with drilling. Wasn't it the EPA that insisted on deep drilling rather than shallow drilling?? The Rockies sounds good, the Artic sounds good and off all our coasts sounds good [shallow drilling}. When a jet plane goes down and all passengers on board are killed, do some of you people on this site according to their comments say - "Cease all air traffic". One in particular, Camille Young-Martin has such a trash mouth and certainly isn't very intellectually impressive. She sounds much like a lot of far left liberals that I have run across. Obama's Speech
written by Cowboy Company, June 14, 2010
I'd like to hear that Obama has someone in charge that knows what they're doing in
respect to "oil". We need to stop the leak. Maybe it would be a good idea to just cap
this well, and go to another location, like the Rocky Mountains, where we have over 2,000 years' supply of oil. It will take about 15 years anyway to get refineries built
and the process set up. Solar and wind power for the future is good, but we have to use
these sources in addition to the oil. If the "Rockies" source was developed, we would
be independent from the Middle East and at the same time the U.S. and Canada could have
enough money to help out their countries and states, who are suffering financially.

The bottom line is: Don't let the U.S. Government handle the money. Let BP put their
money away for lawsuits, but let them manage it themselves. Keep the government from
controlling any more money sources, including money for teachers, etc.!!

I would like to hear President Obama take responsibility for not aggressively taking action in collecting the oil at it's source the second that he was informed that BP was unable to do so. Yes, this administration is not responsible for the accident itself, but I feel that it holds the vast majority of the responsibility (and thus should be responsible for the damages incurred) for the environmental and economic consequences for not taking action at this level. It's like notifying the fire department of a small fire and they stand around watching as the "responsible party-home owner" tries to stop it as it engulfs the entire block. The longer that you watch, the larger it gets, the more damage is causes, and the more dificult it is to rebuild. It is the Obama administrations responsibility to safe guard and preserve this nation, including its natural resouces.
He won't say it.

To Camille Young-Martin if you watched Good Morning America they did a piece on Alaska and Russia and believe it or not you can see Russia from Alaska. O'Bama will not serve another term as the economy is headed for a recession with double digit interest rates from all the rediculous spending O'Bama has done. This guy is just a community organizer and doesn't have a clue how to solve anything and you people with the Diplomacy aspect must realize that he is a good talker but rhetoric only goes so far that he must have something to back it up. As for you fools blaming GW, we are still in Iraq as well as Afghanistan. We are still losing soldiers because they cannot fight the war to win since its now a game with rules of engagement. If we did this in WW11 we would be under Japanese rule today and there would be no ahole liberals around trying to change what our forefathers set this country to be. Remember the Alamo, Arizona does and needs our support. There was a reason why we sent the Mexicans back to Mexico then and why we need to do so now. We fight these wars to preserve our freedom and the Liberals turn around and invite our enemies into our country. Soon we will have bombing in the streets and God forbid its one of these liberals families that gets killed. We would need a lot less oil and other goods and services if we sent all the illegals back to where they came from. If Patton was here, he would send all the Russian Bastards back to Russia. Why does everyone want to come here and bend our rules and use our courts to get their way, where did our rights go? This country will cease to exist in the next 50 years if we keep going down the path we are going.
