NBA Team Makes Bold Statement About Immigration Law
Two Cents - Your Two Cents!

When Phoenix's NBA team takes the court in today's playoff game against the San Antonio Spurs, their jerseys will make a bold statement. While they are emblazoned with the team team logo about the organization's stance on the Arizona's controversial new immigration law, they will also feature the words "Los Suns." The team originally wore the jerseys for two games in March during the NBA's Noche Latina promotion and unanimously decided to wear them for their Cinco de Mayo game against the Spurs.

According to Suns Managing Partner Robert Sarver: "The frustration with the federal government's failure to deal with the issue of illegal immigration resulted in passage of a flawed state law. However intended, the result of passing this law is that our basic principles of equal rights and protection under the law are being called into question, and Arizona's already struggling economy will suffer even further setbacks at a time when the state can ill-afford them. I looked at our players and the diversity in our organization, and I thought we need to go on record that we honor our diversity in our team, in the NBA and we need to show support for that."

Question: As political statements go, what do you think about this one?

Since when did "illegal" become politically correct for 'legal citizen'. Try going to Mexico and asking for the same benefits that they receive for breaking the law. It is a slap in the face to those that have come here legally, and become part of AMERICA. These people are not citizens, thus, they should not have access to our systems. Plan and simple.

If I have a leaky faucet, I have to shut the water off before repairing the faucet. Put a barrier up and keep them out, then deal with those that are here.

Statistics show that every 35 hours and person is kidnapped in Arizona by human trafficking in Arizona. Why isn't this on the news? Duh, 30 milliion "new" citizens equals 30 Million new votes for the Dems.

Sports and politics should be as seperate as church and state. Shame on the NBA and the Suns. Play the game...let the politicians play thier game...don't mix them up.
this is ridiculous

The suns can put what they want on their jerseys--support for teammates of any nationality is good--but unless they are supporting illegal activities, this should not represent a statement about Arizona law.
I applaud Arizona for doing something about it. Why should anyone worry about being stopped unless they are breaking the law. I think this is a bunch of noise over what will become not much of anything.
Most people will only get stopped if they are doing something else to break the law. I am tired of people demanding rights BECAUSE of the color of their skin. Welcome to our country, but jump through all the hoops everyone else has to.

Shame on the organization and the commissioner of the NBA for allowing this ridiculous display of meaningless fodder. I hope they get their butts kicked and realize that their focus needs to stay where they have some skill and understanding. They surely don't think that this move will increase ticket sales? do they????

What part of "illegal" is so difficult to understand? If these people are here illegally, should they not suffer the consequences? How dificult would it be for them to become "legal" aliens? I saw on TV a lady who had been here illegally for 16 years! Could she not been become legal in that time?

It's a good part of the process and part of the ongoing dialog.

That's the positive thing about this law - it has generated discussion and has caused us to take a look at this issue, and hopefully actually act upon the real problems.

We can't afford to ignore the illegal and legal immigration issue any longer.

Keep sports and politics separate. And tell the actors and singers to shut up while you are at it. Individuals enjoy freedom of speech, I suppose by law so does organizations and performers. However, if I pay good money to watch an entertainment event -- such as basketball or football or racing, you get the point -- then I want to be entertained in the form I expected. Example, in this case, I want to see a basketball game, not a political statement.

The NBA commissioner should have prevented this from happening, but then he might have been "politically un-correct"

I think it is the Suns legal right to voice their opinion, I however, believe it not an illegals right to voice his opinion or protest in this country. I don't blame Arizona for passing any laws that protect them since the federal government is to corrupt to do it itself. Hardworking americans are fed up with politics and welfare for illegals. Laws are passed to be enforced. We are like the worlds laughing stock because we can't get it together over hear politically. We are being destroyed by crony politics. Where has accountability gone in this country?

Any fan who has a ticket to the next game, should simply not show up if they agree that the citizens of Arizona have a right to have their laws enforced. Perhaps Los Suns can fill their stands with day workers from Home Depot parking lot.

Since when does inforcing the federal law become illegal? If the laws are bad, change them. Otherwise inforce them for the sake of the pubic's good. This is a rediculous statement to make by a sports franchise.

Sports seemed to be the last place we could comfortably sit in our armchairs at home and watch without being innundated with politics - but not anymore. We have President Obama constantly being interviewed at halftime of our football and basketball games and now our sports owners and stars making "statements" on laws? First of all, I can't believe Mr. Sarver is endorsing and encouraging people who break the law. These people are here 'ILLEGALLY". Second, Steve Nash should shut up - he's not even a citizen of this country. Canada, where he's from, wouldn't put up with this for one second. I suspect Mr. Sarver, as well as the other highly paid NBA players who are weighing in on this issue, have a lot of money, employ a lot of illegal immigrants, at low wages, and want to keep it that way, then go home to their large homes in gated communities, where they have illegal immigrant gardeners and housecleaners and nannies. I'm sure their children go to private schools. Mr. Sarver is untouched by any of this, except in his pocket. Follow the money - Can you spell H.Y.P.O.C.R.I.S.Y??

Went to the protest is Texas, asked over 20 people if they had read the bill and what sections they objected to. NONE had read the bill, they were protesting because someone told them...........
The bill is only 16 pages long. Get it here: www.azleg.gov/legtext/49leg/2r/bills/sb1070s.pdf

There was a time when we expected the media to educate and inform. Today they only incite and inflame. For the same # of column inches spent editorializing, they could print the text.

The media loves ignorant people, without controversy there's nothing to talk about.

I really used to be a Phoenix Suns fan because the Lakers here in Southern California are just so arrogant!

But now, seeing the Suns support the breaking of the law, by not doing what the US immigration laws already state, much-less this new law that protects law enforcement when they are only doing their job, I have to boycott the Phoenix Suns! And I have already spoken to others who will no longer be supporting the Phoenix Suns either.

It's so sad to see a Professional Basketball Team support "Illegal" Immigration!!
What part of "Illegal" do they not understand? We have a legal process for immigration and all other people who are not from Mexico have to follow those laws, so why not people from Mexico?

Then, it's so ironic that the Mexican Laws are extremely harsh in comparison. You can't get a driver’s license in Mexico without following Mexican law. Non-Mexican people cannot own property along the coastlines in Mexico. Non-Mexican people cannot get social security from the Mexican government!! The Mexican government doesn't give free education to non-Mexican people like we do here. There are no real rights for Non-Mexican people in Mexico!! It goes on & on. I just hate this idiotic liberal & Progressive diatribe. You know, ... anything that is anti-God, anti-American. They just don't get it!! They will not have most of their freedoms in 3 to 4 years if we stay on this track we are on. Because Socialism is so right for us, huh? Like the examples elsewhere around the world, you know… the good ones.. like... Russia, China, Cuba, Argentina, er... maybe that’s Not so good after all.

Back to the Phoenix Suns... I hope you lose your series to San Antonio & I hope it's catastrophic!!

Los Suns! Yeah. Kinda cute in a southwestern community. Nice to celebrate Cinco de Mayo...whatever.

Mr. Sarver is absolutely entitled to his own political viewpoint. As a season ticket holder, he does NOT speak for me.

Keep your politically divisive opinions to yourself. Why alienate over HALF of your base? That is foolish. Sarver does not normally seem foolish. He has slipped.

As pointed out above...play basketball well and amuse me for my dollars. That's what I pay for. Keep our Suns out of the political light or they will find themselves with FAR fewer fans. Mistake...haven't seen it before. Stop it. All will be forgiven.

Go Suns!

MOVING TO MEXICO

Dear President Obama:

I'm planning to move my family and extended family into Mexico for my health, and I would like to ask you to assist me.

We're planning to simply walk across the border from the U.S. Into Mexico, and we'll need your help to make a few arrangements.

We plan to skip all the legal stuff like visas, passports, immigration quotas and laws.

I'm sure they handle those things the same way you do here. So, would you mind telling your buddy, President Calderon, that I'm on my way over?

Please let him know that I will be expecting the following:

1. Free medical care for my entire family.

2. English-speaking government bureaucrats for all services I might need, whether I use them or not.

3. Please print all Mexican government forms in English.

4. I want my grandkids to be taught Spanish by English-speaking (bi-lingual) teachers.

5. Tell their schools they need to include classes on American culture and history.

6. I want my grandkids to see the American flag on one of the flag poles at their school.

7. Please plan to feed my grandkids at school for both breakfast and lunch.

8. I will need a local Mexican driver's license so I can get easy access to government services.

9. I do plan to get a car and drive in Mexico , but, I don't plan to purchase car insurance, and I probably won't make any special effort to learn local traffic laws.

10. In case one of the Mexican police officers does not get the memo from their president to leave me alone, please be sure that every patrol car has at least one English-speaking officer.

11. I plan to fly the U.S. Flag from my house top, put U S. Flag decals on my car, and have a gigantic celebration on July 4th. I do not want any complaints or negative comments from the locals.

12. I would also like to have a nice job without paying any taxes, or have any labor or tax laws enforced on any business I may start.

13. Please have the president tell all the Mexican people to be extremely nice and never say critical things about me or my family, or about the strain we might place on their economy.

14. I want to receive free food stamps.

15. Naturally, I'll expect free rent subsidies.

16. I'll need Income tax credits so although I don't pay Mexican Taxes, I'll receive money from the government.

17. Please arrange it so that the Mexican Gov't pays $4,500 to help me buy a new car.

18. Oh yes, I almost forgot, please enroll me free into the Mexican Social Security program so that I'll get a monthly income in retirement.

I know this is an easy request because you already do all these things for all his people who walk over to the U..S. From Mexico . I am sure that President Calderon won't mind returning the favor if you ask him nicely.

Thank you so much for your kind help. You're the man!!!

It's fine for the Suns to want to support Latinos, but what they don't understand is that Arizona is broke. There are already laws on the books, but Arizona can't get the
authorities to support those laws - - thus we have become overrun with too many people.
This is a country of laws, and people have to immigrate lawfully, learn our language,
and become citizens like our forefathers. Keep politics out of basketball!!

Not only are the Az. Suns condoning people who are here illegally but they also condone the drug traffickers, the sex slave traffickers and the mexican gangs that come here to recruit illegals already over here to expand their territory!
If this is what the Az. Sun's organization stands for then I'm glad I'm in Texas! I wish Gov. Perry would make a immigration law like Arizona because I for one and tired of my tax dollars being used to coddle and take care of every wetback that hops over the imaginary fence between Texas and Mexico!

Illegal is illegal. What part of illegal do so many people not understand? AZ is broke. We need the jobs for our citizens, not for more illegals. We need to keep our US money in the US. We cannot support everyone. We are in great danger here in AZ from the human smuggling AND drug smuggling! Illegals are killed by their smugglers... Every week on TV, more "drop houses" and people treated like cattle, 40 to a house, no food, no water, and killed if no ransom. Too many people are dying, "gringos" AND Hispanics. What about all of the others besides Mexicans or Hispanics, too? How many terrorists walk across and stay illegally? To bomb our cities?! We MUST SECURE OUR BORDER!!!! We have a wonderful large Mexican population who are LEGAL! God bless 'em! We can no longer support the illegal population to the detriment of our citizens!

No one, I mean abosultely no one I know is against Immigration. However, everyone I know and have spoken to about this issue agrees (to the person) feels that Illegal immigration has destroyed the social service system because of the flow of non-citizens of all races, creeds and colors that are illegally receiving benefits from programs they have not and are not contributing toward.

This is true too of the Healthcare situation that has so many of us upset over the Nationalization of the system. Personnally, my wife and I pay out nearly
$ 2500.00/month in various Insurances with healthcare 900./mo. being the largest premium.

It is a slap in the face to all American Citizens of all ages who pay their way for the services they purchase. There is no such thing as "free insurance" that is an oxymoron, but there seems to be plenty of "free loaders" where ever you turn.

The answer is simple, become a Leagl Immigrant, then a Citizen of the United States of America, pay your portion for the services you wish to purchase and the whole system will be fine. If you choose not to participate that's fine and dandy, but when tragedy strikes you will have to pay exponentially more!

God Bless America and the Troops that keep us FREE!

Gee . . . let's see. It is Cinco de Mayo, they already used these jersey, they are still in the playoffs -- they can make a lot more money selling these if there is a political statement attached . . . just how sincere do you think Sarver is. Or is this simply profiting from great timing!

The real statement is made if they wear the uniforms more than once without the hype and promotion.

I sort of liked watching Steve Nash play. No more. What wimps! This whiny PC nonsense is nauseating. What country allows people to walk in and plunder their land????? I am all for LEGAL immigration by those who become LOYAL to this land. Many who come this way actually want the SW US to cecede. Zero loyalty. And give citizenship like Crackerjack trinkets??? The Dems are in this for votes and could care less about what is happening in he border states. I suggest hat the Suns fans who still have sense stay home for a week or so and see if the illegals sell-out their stadium. If they do, then keep the Spanish uniforms and enjoy. I bet they see 3/4 empty seats. Boycotts work both ways. I would NEVER take even a FREE ticket to see these spineless turkeys play!

What amazes me is people keep calling them illegal aliens, but complain that their rights are not protected. Hello, does anyone understand the word illegal. What about all the legal aliens we discriminate against because we made them complete the process. First thing we need to do is stop this automatic citizenship for children born in the US. If the parents are illegal, then pack them up and send them home. We are spending millions we don't have to make it easier for them to access our welfare system, which will not support them and will collapse. We are a nation of laws, lets elect some folks with the balls to enforce them. Also someone should do some checking an see how much we are spending to house the ones who have come here and comitted crimes. I bet it would shock the hell out of us. We also provide them with free legal council. We can save billions and our country if we stop this madness.

I think the Suns did this stunt from strictly an economic standpoint. Seeing that their state is facing harsh sanctions from other cowardly states, they had to send the message, disassociating themselves from Gov. Brewer's law. Like any business, they need customers, the fans, and perhaps those (foolish enough in my opinion) to spend $100+ on team jerseys and shorts. This stunt may actually increase sales for those wasteful itens.
