John Edwards Admits to Affair
Two Cents - Your Two Cents!

Former U.S. senator and Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards admitted Friday to an extramarital affair. He denied being the father of the woman's child, as had been alleged in tabloid reports. In an interview on ABC's "Nightline," Edwards acknowledged the affair with 42-year-old Rielle Hunter, which began after she was hired to make documentary videos for his campaign. "You cannot beat me up more than I have already beaten up myself. I have been stripped bare and will now work with everything I have to help my family and others who need my help," he added in the statement.

Question: Should the media remove itself from this story since the Edwards family has already dealt with it privately?

Why drag his wife through this muck?
written by Jinx, August 11, 2008
Look, this is ridiculous. Edwards dropped out of the race and is not even working in a public role anymore. His wife Elizabeth is dying of cancer. Why on earth would the press drag HER through this misery during her last months on earth?

Any public figure is going to be tempted time and time again to engage in this type of activity and the pressure of being on the road and being under such close scrutiny all the time seems to get to all of them in one way or another.

As displayed by the Kennedys and FDR and any number of other hugely successful and progressive politicians, a man's sex life has absolutely NOTHING TO DO with his ability to perform the functions of the job of president or politician.

Leave Elizabeth alone! Let her live her last few months in peace with her family.

He admited the affair, him and his family are dealing with it, its time to move on. I truly feel sorry for his wife. I thought he was better then that but I see he is no different from the rest of the DC bunch. I'll continue to pray for his wife and hope she can forgive him and move on. I hope this does not effect her health in any way. smilies/cry.gif smilies/shocked.gif
Ain't Nobody's Business but Their Own

Such a thing is hard enough for the people involved. Making it public serves no purpose but to encourage schadenfreude (enjoyment in the suffering of others and like seeing them brought down). Is that really who we are? People who enjoy the suffering of others? If you follow our media that would seem to define us. I always thought America was better than that.

No way, the media takes every chance they get to roast any conservative candidate over a spit, for doing far less than Edwards has done. To be honest, other than the Enquirer I haven't heard anything from the main stream media, which in itself is a pass. No way should this guy get away with it! Whether or not the baby is his doesn't matter, he cheated on his family and lied. End of story!

Wasn't Elizabeth Edwards diagnosed with cancer back in 2004? So this "all American boy" as I've heard over and over was cheating and lying to her while she fights for her life. Of course the dems never turn their back on these disgusting, lying, manipulating human beings as evidenced by Bill Clinton! VOMIT!!!

I agree with Tracey, they rake conservatives over the coals! Where was the media when the Inquirer found out about Edwards, no where, if it was Rush Limbaugh they would have it in the headlines! I always thought Edwards was phony! Its too bad HE PUT HIS DYING WIFE THROUGH THIS! NOT MUCH OF A MAN!
Shame, Shame on Him
written by Foot Tapper, August 11, 2008
Last time I checked, when you enter public life, your life becomes PUBLIC. If you decide to play "hide the weenie" with a groupie, then you are most decidedly open for public scrutiny. If you are running for the highest office of the country where your decisions affect the rest of the people, then you MUST be held accountable for your decisions as they show your true character especially "under pressure". When you can't keep your marriage VOWS, which are SACRED COVENANTS (promises) to your spouse, then how can you keep promises AND be held accountable to a country. SHAME ON HIM.

John Edwards (the Breck Girl) would not have been re-elected senator from North Carolina. He is one of the biggest two-faced liberals walking around. Just ask the neighbor across the street whom he has harassed.

Elizabeth I bet has know all along that the John (the Breck Girl) was having too many campaign meetings and decided to stay quiet; and I bet that this is NOT the first time. This is just the first time that he has been openly caught. SHAME ON HIM and The woman is a whore.

The child is now just another bastard without a two parent family home to be loved and cared for, only this time she is a well paid whore. Shame on her for admittably (sp?) sleeping with two married men. She is a WHORE. John and this woman deserve each other.
They are BOTH WHORES, and the child now suffers, the wives suffer, the legal siblings suffer, the community suffers, and the country suffers. Who says it is a "PRIVATE AFFAIR"? SHAME ON HIM. SHAME ON HER.

First of all as long as Edwards keeps himself in the media spotlight, as a politican he will always do, he has no private life. Anyone wishing to be a leader of this country should be an open book. Remember his wife knew about it for several months now and ALSO kept it a secret during his campaign for the nomination. So she should also be included in the negative press. We've already had to many womanizing, cheating Presidents, ie: John Kennedy, Bill Clinton, even Eisenhower had his with his driver during WWII. There have also been reports of FDR straying during his time in office. But that still doesn't make it right.

I believe the media should leave the Edwards' family alone, now. He has told everyone, particularly those who really mattter, that he did a foolish thing - and got caught out. If the "other" woman is the one who blew the whistle, and since she had a baby, why not have that child's DNA tested? Seems to me, she wants it both ways - "See I have a baby, AND I had a relationship with John Edwards. Draw your own conclusions!" Edwards is not the first, nor will he be the last, to have an affair with a woman - or a man, for that matter. As one who has been close to that Congressional poliical "power," I can guarantee you those in that position believe they are untouchable, and can do whatever they what or desire. It's sad, but simply an extension of the general public's actions. It always amuses me when those who are the "purists" - or so they tell us - are the first to cast that first stone. Unfortunately, many women are seduced by that aura of power that surrounds successful men, whether politicians, business men, clergy or media figures. That is a hole in their psyches, and certainly a hole in the other person's psyche, if they respond. The Bible tells the same story - some things just never change!

Once someone steps into the public forum, their life is food for fodder - we all know this - why do some of us pretend not to? If a person running for public office is not trustworthy, open and honest, then they are in the wrong business - try the entertainment industry.

"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." That is the opinion of a demonstrably sinless man.
Clearly, some of these correspondents must be angels, as they are certainly casting a whole lot of stones. And, clearly the press corps is full of angels as well. I always find it interesting how stridently unChristian some fervently professed Christians can be.

Yes, the media needs to butt out. John is not a candidate, he is not holding public office at this time. It should be between him and his family. Yes, I am terribly diasppointed in him but it is not any of my business now. He will have to deal with his transgressions himself. It is now between him and his maker and last time I checked, God did not give press releases!
Leave them Alone

My word! Is nothing sacred any more? So what if John Edwards had an affair back-when! It is NONE OF OUR BUSINESS. It is between John, his wife, and God. No one else. The media just goes too far.

As Jinx says, "A man's sex life has absolutely NOTHING TO DO with his ability to perform the functions of the job of president or politician."

Kennedy and Clinton both got caught with their "hands" in the cookie jar. While it's sinful, it's not our place to judge - only God can judge. But in spite of that, they were good presidents (I know many disagree). Ask any foreign country and they will tell you they all liked Kennedy and Clinton better than any president in the last 50 years.

What supidity the media is showing. Like the media is the Big Brother or something. The members of the media are not so innocent themselves. Since when do they have the right to throw stones. It is all about money. It makes me sick to think that is all they have to report on. The man is a human being with his faults. Seems to me, Edward's has already meet his faults and asked for forgiveness from the only ones that count. He has done more than "most sinners" including those in the media. Everyone needs to take a look in the mirror. We all have broken our morales one way or another during our lives. The media, of all people, needs to wake up and get back to reporting what is important and stop the gossip. They haven't done anything important since the reporting of the band on media coverage of the return of our dead troops and then did nothing about changing it.

Good reason I listen to PBS more than ever. It is time for the gossip reporters to get a job.

It is OUR Bizness
written by Foot Tapper, August 12, 2008
A person's "sex life" DOES have EVERYTHING TO DO with how they make decisions and their ability to perform functions of the job of president or the mayor of some small town. It is the "footprint and shadow" of who that person is as a person of character.

Kennedy and Clinton were both wrong. They STOLE truthfulness and honor not only from themselves, but from their children, wives, their country and ultimately themselves.

Frankly, I really don't care what the Euro-weenies think of us. It NOT a popularity contest. We are the UNITED STATES of AMERICA! We as a country have always been the Beacon of Hope, and Righteousness to the rest of the world, not a sleazy cesspool like the rest of the world. i.e. Europe, Asia, South America ect. Why do all these people want to come here? Because we as a country have always until recently been a country of honesty (not cheating on your wife/husband or at cards), integrity and character; because they would have an opportunity to have the "pursuit of happiness" with a fair chance.

I don't care how intelligent or educated that person is, if they can't control their appetites, sexual, food, drugs, running, shopping, lying ect. then they should NOT be considered for an elected office until they can control themselves. And that goes for preachers and others in high responsibility of leadership. Hear that Jesse, Al, and Jim B. et.al.?

Unfaithfulness is only one step in destroying a country and and their resolve of HONESTY, TRUTHFULNESS, VIRTUE, INTEGRITY and CHARACTER. Frankly, I would NOT purchase a used car from someone who I knew had been unfaithful to their spouse. If they could not be faithful and truthful to them, how could they tell me the truth regarding a vehicle that I would drive my family in? Same goes for a person wanting to "drive" the country.

Character DOES Matter. Just because everyone else is jumping off a bridge or playing in traffic, doesn't mean that you should do it also. Just because someone else is smoking Meth means that you should too. Just because someone is boinking someone else's wife/husband mean that you should too. All are toxic, and will erode your soul. Remember the story of David and Bathsheba? If not look it up. It ruined David, he lusted after Bathsheba; it killed her husband Uriah and eventually David's and Bathsheba's son. The same will go for those who have been entrusted with the high office and so will the country who ignores such malfeasance.

I just bet that this isn't the first time that the Breck Girl has been "hiding the weenie", just the first time he has been openly caught. If YOU put yourself in PUBLIC LIFE, YOUR LIFE BECOMES PUBLIC, CHARACTER DOES MATTER, and IT IS OUR BIZNESS.

*** BTW *** Turns out that the "Drive-by Media" has known about this for quite awhile and decided NOT TO REPORT IT while he was actively campaigning for president.

SHAME, SHAME, SHAME.

That is Journalistic Malfeasance.
AND IT IS OUR BIZNESS,

This is NOT about Sex...

Shame on us AGAIN! We just can't seem to mind our own business and stay out of everyone's bedrooms! When did we become so self righteous? When did it become our job to JUDGE anyone??? Shame on us again! John McCain CHEATED on his first wife many times, AND married Cindy before the ink was dry on his divorce decree...are you KIDDING?!?
We would rather spend time passing judgement on John Edwards... further upsetting his wife, and forcing our self righteousness on everyone, then to accept that we are all only HUMAN!!! and how Hypocritical the media is...you want even coverage? Then stop settling for the sleazy reporting being done on John Edwards personal life and start asking REAL questions about things that matter in this world...my world and yours.
Educate yourselves...ask about Health care, education, the economy...ask why families are being torn apart by a senseless war that was completely built on lies!!!
You want to destroy John Edwards career, and life for one lie...something that is truly none of our business... something that is between him, his wife, and God...Yet no one will speak up and make anyone in this administration responsible for the thousands of lies they have told to manipulate the U.S. into this horrific war...
It's pretty sad that people are so ready to destroy John Edwards for having sex with ONE woman, but stick their heads in the sand by continuing to support this administration filled with nothing but liars, thieves and murderers of THOUSANDS...
We all need to look in the mirror and take responsibility for our complete and total LACK of action in holding this administration accountable for the global damage they have done.
Our need to feign moral purity and outrage at John Edwards indicretion is the most tragic lie of them all.
Oh and let's not forget that nasty, serial cheating little hypocrite John McCain...as I said before...SHAME ON US AGAIN.
