Bill & Hillary at the Convention
Two Cents - Your Two Cents!

Bill and Hillary Clinton have both taken center stage at the Democratic National Convention to deliver high-powered speeches. Both Clinton's whipped the attendees into a frenzy.

Question: How do you think they did, and did they convince Hillary's Democratic supporters to throw their full support behind the Obama/Biden ticket?

Watching Bill Clinton say that Obama is ready to become Commander in Chief after saying he lacked the experience, only 4 months ago reminded me of his "other performance on TV", years ago when he told us: "I did not have sex with that woman" and I did not have an "improper relationship" ...Well at least this time he is not under oath and could not be indicted or be disbarred and impeached again.
As for Hillary, I think had it not been for her husband comments and womanizing in Europe during her campaign, which made the higher ups in the party discard her efforts and sell her out, she would have been the nominee today. It is a shame; her experience is not that great but is certainly better than Obama's. 173 days of service at as a junior Senator with the most liberal record of votes and the highest absenteeism hardly deserves any thinking citizen's vote. Don't like my choices but I'll go with experience, over good speeches any day. I love this country and integrity, in my book, will always come before allegiance to any party.
Bill and Hillary at the Convention

1. Both the Clintons were persuasive about switching her delegates to BH Obama.
2. I think they take a great risk to let Bill campaign for Obama. They cannot control him.
3. Hillary is running for president in 2012 or 2016, so she will be more circumspect.
4. The sheer force of their joint personalities will tend to overshadow the shallowness of Obama and for the Dems, that might be a good thing.
5. Bottom line is the Democrat electors may wish they had nominated "Billary" and not Barack by election time.

A great job by both of them! Hillary's speech was awesome and I do think it will result in most of her supporters showing their full support for the Obama/Biden ticket.
Great salesman
written by cpmr, August 28, 2008
Bill is the greatest salesman and could sell water to a drowning man. It is too bad he had to sell an empty suit. If he was here a few years earlier he could have done the same for another entertainer, Elvis.
Hillary tried hard, but I'm not buying it
written by Carlon, August 28, 2008
Hillary smiled a lot and sounded like she was trying to be convincing, but knowing how badly she would LOOOOVE to be the first woman president I can't buy it. She must have cried here eyes out the night before to keep from crying yesterday.
I think that Hillary fans are not going to jump behind Obama, because his background is too sketchy, too many shady friends, too little experience.
Also, Biden had some telling things to say about Barack that would make any Hillary supporter NOT get behind Barack.

I think they both did a great job telling Hillary's supporters that it's time to get behind Obama. I, personally, would not have voted for Hillary if she had been the candidate -- her integrity is certainly in question (although I would love to have a woman candidate for president -- I just don't think Hillary's the right woman). I also would not be able to vote for McCain -- how can you say he has integrity when he has admitted having an affair (no matter how long ago it was -- it still speaks to his values) and changes his stated views depending on who he is talking to? He is definitely pandering to the far right, even though he has always been more moderate, just to get elected. I would like my president to have the guts to stand up for what he believes in, no matter how it plays in the polls, and at this point I think Obama fits that description. I hope that people will look at the issues and where each candidate stands and use their intelligence, not their emotions, to choose the best person for the job. Obama is our best bet for getting us out of the disastrous Bush years -- and McCain would be more of the same.
Great Speeches...no surprise
written by Opinionated, August 28, 2008
I think that changing the minds of the voters is not necessary. Most people have already made up their minds who they will be voting for.

I don't care what Hillary or Bill say now (I love them both), people will not forget what they said when the campaigned against Barak Obama. Nor will they hold it again the Clintons; that is the nature of contest.

Barak Obama will have to win on the merit of his impression upon the people of this wonderful country. Sadly, many will not vote Democratic this go-round simply because Mr. Obama is the candidate.

The Clinton's were great and I am hopeful that they remain a duo to reckon with. We need them....

Lets See What Happens

There seemed to be some unstated feelings, but that is to be expected. If the backers for Hillary doesn't take the acclamation for face value and just vote Democrat because they are democrats, that is on them. The Clintons love the spot light and will always arrange things to highlight themselves. No matter what, we'll see what happens!

I only heard Hillary's announcement of her nomination for Obama by acclimation, but it sounded sincere to me. I think people find her insincere because she gets a bit of a superior look on her face, and it's just possible it could be there to cover up fear. Hard to say. Bill's speech was impressive. And it sounded as though it were coming from his heart. And I even listened to part of Biden's speech. I most certainly enjoyed his stories about his mother when he was growing up. She seems to be a wise woman and raised her son right. I think between Obama and Biden they will make this a great country again. It sure is a sad place under the Bush rule, that's for sure.

WOW!Both of them were magnificent! It took a lot for them to do what they did, and they did it with class! If Bill Clinton could run for president, he would be elected in a heartbeat! He is such a mesmerizing speaker and he hit all the nails on the head with forcefullness. And Hillary--what a magnificent hero!!
She is the real heroine of this election year and has left her mark and a legacy. Obama needed them to deliver in order for the party to unite behind him and they came through bigtime. Hillary DID rock the Convention Tuesday night and Bill complemented her nicely last night.

Agree with Finance Banking Consultant. While, Obama has charisma and possess the ability to talk for five minutes without actually answering your question, he does not have the experience or backbone needed to be the next president of the United States. If you don't truly stand for something, you will fall for anything. Mr. Obama appears to change views based on his audience - that is not true leadership. The best thing he has going for him is his wife.
We NEED to Vote Democrat this time
written by Mimi, August 28, 2008
Obama does Not have the experience, McCain would be 4 more years of the same poor economy, etc. thanks to the Bush administration. Sadly, this is what we got to choose from. Although I am not comfortable with it, I say vote for Obama and hope for the best. Perhaps he can make a difference, don't forget he will have other Democrats with him behind the scenes to help him with making the right decisions. Seriously, we simply cannot endure another 4 yrs of things staying the same under a Republican president.

I think (and hope) the STD's and crotch crickets will have Hillary taken care of before the next election. How can we trust our country, livelyhoods & lives to someone who is still married to that dumbass who shit on her like that.

I think both Clintons did an excellent job under what must have been hard conditions. After having worked so hard for something, and then have to support the man you ran against so long, has to be difficult. I think they both did an excellent job with their words and their actions.
I thiink the American public forgets that politians are people, too. They expect their leaders to be whiter than snow when they, themselves, are dirty as mud. It is such a hypocritical attitude. I have known many politians and while they aren't perfect, most are extremely hard working (often to the detriment of their families), dedicated and tireless. I think that anyone who wants to be president has a "death wish." There is no doubt the office ages the person in obvious and not so obvious ways. Talk about your 24/7 job! It never ends. I sincerely hope that Obama wins because I don't think McClain will make it through four years - he's simply too old to do the job even adequately. And, we don't need "old man" ideas right now!

I find Bill and Hill disgusting and if you dems think for one minute they actually want Obama to win this race then you are all very naieve. Loved how he blamed Bush and republicans for everything when the economy was in trouble before he left office. And then he complained about service members doing 2 and 3 tours - hello, Clinton cut the military in half. They have no responsibility in anything huh? Guess what folks - life expectancy is moving into the 90's now, so think about the stupid statements you make that McCain won't make it. Joe Biden is in much worse shape than McCain.

Part of the problem is Americans are so stupid and lazy with the entitlement mentality feeling they are owed a better lifestyle then the rest of the world. Personally, I work hard and I paid off most of my debt except the house and I haven't struggle whatsoever in this so called horrible economy. In fact, we took a vacation for the first time in 4 years and are taking advantage of low prices to do some home remodeling - so maybe if people quit buying plastic junk, did their own nails, mowed their own lawns and spent their money more wisely, they wouldn't have problems paying for the necessities right now. You think Obama is going to fix that credit card debt for you - you're more stupid than I thought! Wake up and take responsiblity for your own lives instead of blaming the president that has nothing to do with your own cha-chinging problem. It doesn't matter who is president if you don't get your own financial lives in order and take responsiblity!

Well good for you YOUNG, glad you are doing so well. But are you living under a rock?? All of your statements are truly ignorant, because the fact is the economy is bad, food, gas, taxes etc are up and it is squeezing the middle class, it has nothing to do with people blaming their own cha-ching problems on the president! To call Americans stupid and Lazy when they loose their homes because they simply can no longer afford to live with the rising prices is absurd. Retirees are suddenly forced to move because the rise in taxes forced them out of their life long homes. That should not happen to people who worked all their lives to suddenly to put in that position. It is wrong!

If all that you say is true Tali, why would you vote for someone who is going to take more of our money for taxes, not to mention adding extra taxes on food, gas, utilities et... Who do you think the extra money Obama is going to take from the "rich" is going to effect? Everything rolls down hill, keep taxing the rich and corporations and we will all be out of jobs. Do you believe that poor people give you a job? As far as Bill C goes, when he started talking about Bush and this war I said out loud, if you had done YOUR job there is a 99% chance that 9/11 wouldn't have happened. Bush wasn't in office long enough for it to be on his watch but I guess that facts don't matter just emotional retoric.

Loved her suit, didn't believe a word she said, think Bill is the ultimate skumbag and he was completely insincere. Michele is scarey and Obama is inexperienced and has a background of hanging with the far left crowd. I just want to know who is behind him in the shadows that has gotten him this far. Wake up America! Do your research and you will find that he is not presidential material.
As Good as They Wanted It To Be
written by marlee, August 28, 2008
They were both gracious and kind, however, we all know how the bitter taste of defeat was wallowing around in both their mouths. Both of them said what they were expected to say and behaved like true dyed-in-the-wool democrats. Will it work on Obama's behalf? I, for one, certainly hope so. The pros and cons going back and forth by all the media and political commentators is just mind boggling and confusing.

Hope that they won't try to run and interference for Mr. Obama, purposely or not. We need a change and we need it now. McCain is just and extension of Bush. I'm so sick of hearing Obama referred to as an "empty suit". Who started that ridiculous analogy? Can that be proven? I really don't think so. Mr Obama fills his suit out just fine and I believe that when he is our next president, he will finally prove it to every American.

I think that Hillary shot the convention out of the saddle when she called for a confirmation vote instead of polling each state. Kind of took away took away from the people and put herself in the limelight. I don't feel that she is sincere, and Bill looked like he was bombed.

Heard a comedian on the Tonight show a few days ago who hit the nail on the head. He said, "We have a hell of a choice, Half Black or half dead. What a choice. I really don't feel that Obama has enough experience, and McCain has the past 8 years looming over his head.

Anyone who thinks that the economy is going to turn around instantaniously with a new Pres. is nuts. AND, we cannot pull out of Iraq immediately or we will really be in trouble. Looks like this is a wait and see. Maybe I will vote for the Independent, is Ralph Nader running?

Part of the housing mess is because people got greedy and refinanced or borrowed against their homes in hopes of being able to sell them at an inflated price. Mostly the speculators are to blame for the inflated prices and BIG business doesn't help when so many jobs are be shipped out of the country.

I would not believe Bill Clinton if he told me anything. That is the same person who told us "I did not INHALE" and "I did not have sexual relations with that woman!" I did not believe that Hillary thinks that Barack Obama is the Man for the Job. She thinks that she is the Woman for that Job. I think John McCain should nominate Hillary to be his Vice President if he wants to win. Barack Obama, I noticed in his speech tonight almost said Drugs instead of some other word he was about to say and I can't recall exactly when it was. I also noticed a couple of other times when he nearly misspoke about what he wanted to say. Days ago he made the comment that Joe Biden is ready to be the next President of the United States and even another time he called him the next President and then caught himself and changed it to Vice President. I really think that If Biden is the man to run with Obama why didn't he stay in the race to begin with? Barack Obama is not the Man for the Job in my opinion, but the reason I have that opinion is the email I receive all the time showing how each Senator and Representative vote on issues. Barack Obama has voted on less than 10 items in the past year. He does not want anyone to know how he votes or feels about any of the issues. That is what I look at before I vote for anyone. I don't always care how he voted but whether he did vote. I want to know how he feels. He doesn't vote because he doesn't want to be committed to anything, that way he can say what each person wants to hear. There have been some of the issues he touched on changing in his Democratic Convention Speech that he didn't vote on during his days in the Senate office when they came up to be voted on. Only the Devil does that. The Devil thinks he can sit on the fence so he can go either way. That doesn't work with me. If he can't make up his mind how he feels while a Senator I don't trust him to be my President. He has been receiving a salary as a Senator that he doesn't deserve to receive because he has not done his job as Senator. Also, Barack has been associated with Tony Rezko as he had something to do with the House that Barack lives in and the strip of land adjacent to it. It has something to do with making the strip adjacent to Obama's worth a lot more than it really is. Obama is associated with Rezco and we are going to find out later down the road. I think it should be brought up before he is voted on for our President. I have articles from a newspaper telling all about the Real Estate deal and it doesn't appear on the up and up to me. If you want someone who denies being associated with a person who was found out to be a criminal then that is your business. Blagojovich claims he wasn't associated with Rezco also but it is false. I think that there is a lot of stuff being hidden from the public so that some one can profit from it. I don't want him running my country. You must decide for yourself. Obama isn't some poor Democrat. He has a home that is pretty expensive for a Senator. I didn't know Senators could afford homes worth in the $Millions He has only been a Senator for a couple of years and hasn't done his job he was elected to do and that was to vote on all the issues brought before him. If he can't push a button yes or no then how can he be prepared to run a country.
The problem with the economy is Alan Greenspan is no longer running things. When prices went up he made adjustments. I don't even know the name of the guy who has his job and he hasn't done anything to control prices. We need Alan Greenspan back in office or our economy is going to crash and we are going to be back in the Depression. If that happens no one will have anything of value. We will all be living on food stamps and stamps will be your money called Ration Stamps. Obama is fooling himself if he thinks he can solve all the worlds problems with a few eloquent speeches. Action speaks louder than words and I don't see that happening. He could not vote on issues so he can't run a country. He doesn't even run his own home. He is P*s Whipped and I don't think he wears the pants either.

Oh yeah Tali, I do feel sorry for individuals that are truly in a situation where they can't pay their mortgage because of rising insurance and taxes. But I saw people being very greedy and frivolous in their decisions the last 20 years or so and upsizing their houses to something they couldn't afford, purchasing new car after new car, every Christmas buying their kids the latest greatest video machines etc etc and just trying to keep up with the Joneses. Little did they know that the Joneses are quietly in debt too. We've become this very materialistic society and not that I don't want nice things too, we all do, but at some point people have to reign it in and get control of their own house and quit worrying that someone might have something nicer than them. Having recently lost my mother, I realize NONE of that stuff matters and your friends and family are what's most important and not some plastic crap made in China. Do you purposely seek out products made in the USA to keep American workers working? I do - took me 2 months to find a pair of tennis shoes and then it's only 70% made here, but better that than nothing. So maybe people should quit blaming and take a little responsibility and do their small part to make a difference and seriously, as someone that works in finance and sees even so called wealthy people everyday with $50,000, $60,000 etc in credit card debt, you will be much better off taking control of your own life and not relying on any government to do things for you - they're not going to anyway!!! I listened intently to Obama last night and I did gain more respect for him, but in the end, it's all rhetoric and they'll all say the right things right now, but next year, it will still be up to you as the individual to take care of yourself. Think about the laws that have passed - increasing retirement contributions, creating education savings accounts, creating medical savings and health savings accounts - the writing is on the wall, the government is telling YOU to take care of yourself!

OU812 - your comments are disgusting. You should be ashamed to print the kind of trash you are spouting here. So you don't like the Clintons. The kind of language you use leads me to question your intelligence.

And Young, who is the real you? The one who says Americans are stupid and lazy? or the one who says he feels sympathy for those who are in a bad place because of rising insurance and taxes?
The Americans I know are neither stupid (except maybe OU812) nor lazy! We all work hard for what we have, even though it's not a lot. But we do have our basic needs met daily and we have people who love us, and in that we are rich.

Obama has given Americans HOPE. The HOPE for a light at the end of the tunnel. The HOPE for at least some of our burdens to be lifted. Hope is powerful. And we have had NO hope for the past 8 years. I believe Obama and Biden will work together to accomplish as many of Obama's dreams for America as possible.

Yes, we do all need to stop relying so much on the government to fix things; I've always believed that to make real change it has to start with one person and spread. But under the thumb of the Republicans, and specifically Bush, we don't even have the encouragement to try to make changes because we HAVE NO POWER any more. It has been stripped from us and we need someone new to allow us to do more for ourselves.

And I still say Bill Clinton did a good job. Not only in his speech, but also as president. What he does with his zipper is none of our business.

Has anyone noticed that John McCain has nothing to run on except the devastation of the Bush administration? All he can do is spend a fortune on attack ads. This is what kids in junior high do. I haven't heard anything from him about what he plans to do. As for Hillary's speech, it is the first one I could watch because she wasn't waving her arms around and pontificating and preaching about herself. The Clintons have a way of getting what they want, and I think Hillary will end up with a big post in the Obama administration. John McCain is showing signs of senility and can't even keep basic facts straight. Now he has picked a woman for a running mate who has no experience in Washington at all. And what foreign relatiions? This is laughable. Do we want to run the risk of her being president if anything should happen to McCain? This terrifies me.
...

Hey Katz, I didn't hear anything that Obama is going to do either, yes he said "my plan" but there are NO DETAILS on how those plan are supposed to be executed and paid for. You think he is seriously going to create national health care (which in one year would cost more money than the entire war) and cut taxes, and give free college educations and this and that ... who is going to pay for this? You think we have deficit now - just wait!!! Someone will come out with the numbers in a couple days to see how much "his plan" will cost. And why don't you check Palin's records, she's done a lot more than Mr. Obama has done as a Senator of which he's spent half campaigning for President!

And to Carol G, there's a giant difference between someone who bought a house they could afford and because of years of rising taxes and insurance, now cannot afford it and someone who wanted to appear wealthier than they were and bought more house than they could afford from the get go using a bad loan - they KNEW what they were getting into! And I'm sorry, but I see many hard working American's and I see many lazy American's with the entitlement mentality that think they deserve a certain lifestyle they are NOT willing to work for! Especially the young people because unfortunately there is a fine line between wanting to give your children more than you had and actually teaching them a work ethic. Most of my friends don't teach their children work ethic, they just give and give and the kid grows up expecting to have a certain lifestyle they've never been taught to work for. On top of that, the kids have no respect for anything or anyone because of the "entitlement mentality". I think this is the point people missed in Obama's speech last night in him speaking of his own history, if you're not willing to work hard and if you don't have a family behind you teaching you morals, ethics and respect for fellow human beings, you'll never get ahead. Interesting that people think our economy is so bad, yes there is high inflation right now and things are more expensive, but we DO still have growth in our economy and sometimes I think we need to have it a lot worse for people to wake up and FINALLY get it. Don't tell me I don't live in the real world -those that think their stupid THINGS are more important don't live in the real world. On top of that, until you get rid of cable tv and cell phones and ipods and gadgets and stop eating out every night and really tighten your belt, I don't want to hear how hard you have it. If you're a person that doesn't have all that and you're working hard and you still can't pay your electric bill or put gas in your car, then I feel for you ... and usually, those people aren't complaining. It's those that think they're entitled to those "perks" that I'm sick of hearing about!

Hillary has been running for president since her college days to one degree or the other. While giving lip service to support Obama in this election, she in no way wants him to win, because it would ruin her chances to run again in 4 years. Hillary on election day in the privacy of the voting booth will probably be voting for McCain.
