Beer & Movies: Recession-Proof?
Two Cents - Your Two Cents!

As the U.S. government announced it would be investing $250 billion in banks around the country to try and resuscitate the financial market, at least two businesses seem unfazed by the slowing economy. While people may be tightening belts, they don't seem to be curbing their thirst for beer, and a new study shows that regular filmgoers have no plans to cut back on trips to the local multiplex.

Question: Is the economy affecting your beer drinking and movie-going?

I never went to the movies much anyway. No it has not affected my beer purchase at all.

Let's see... since we haven't been able to afford to go to the movies regularly for about.. four years, and we don't drink (at least, not beer), I'd have to say nope, it hasn't affected our habits in the slightest.

What's the puzzle? People want to get smashed and escape into a good movie. No recession there!

It hasn't affected us, we don't drink, and I use the rent one get one free coupons for Movie Gallery. Using good money sense all the time gives us more money to put toward other things....like paying off our bills...

It's true. I mostly rent movies (cinema too expensive), but as long as B*sh is in office, beer is an important staple in my house. Just kidding! ;-)

I have thought about all the areas where I have cut back in the past year and beer is NOT one of those areas. Between work and all the other stresses in life, I don't mind saying I like throwing one back every now and then. I usually don't go to the movies much, but have seen two in the past several months. Maybe Beer and Movies sales are a economic indicators (when I was younger - it was how long / short shirt hems were).

It sounds like most of this site's commenters are in the same position I'm in - we cut back the expensive movies a long time ago. I don't really like beer, so that's no loss, and I rent movies. We have a couple theaters here that we call the "cheap seats" and occasionally see movie there. The movies are second or third run by the time they get there, but what the heck, at least we see them.

I'm so tired of bailing out ailing "anything" that I could spit. When is it going to stop?!?!?!?

I only went to Matinees and I do not drink beer so it has not affected me in any way I still go to the cheap movies and still do not like beer.
Dont Drink and Drive...the means at the movies too!

As in dont drink and drive. It should be dont drink at the movies and drive. Its dangerous no matter how you want to paint it. If you go to the movies its to sit down and enjoy the movie with a sound mind and not blasted. What they need to do is lower the price of the tickets and popcorn so more families can go!!!!
