Recently, President Obama announced that he would be canceling NASA's Constellation program while shifting the responsibility for launching astronauts into orbit to commercial companies. In other words, forget about putting U.S. astronauts back on the moon and then on Mars. NASA is not the same agency it was 40 to 50 years ago. But it still attracts the brightest scientists and engineers in the country. Despite the knowledge and technologies available today, it's hard to imagine how the U.S. could ever do Apollo again with a NASA budget of $17.6 billion per year. The technologies that emerged from the Apollo era had commercial value many times the investment.
Question: Is President Obama making the right decision with regards the US space program? |

Europe is beginning to emerge from a volcanic cloud, allowing limited air traffic to resume and giving hope to millions of travelers stranded around the world when ash choked the jet age to a halt. However, the eruption from the Icelandic volcano that caused the six days of aviation chaos was said to be strengthening and sending more ash toward Britain, which could make it unlikely that London airports would reopen Tuesday. Question: Do you think the aviation industry is being overly cautious with their concerns about the volcanic ash or are they taking necessary precautions? |

Sarah Palin explained to Americans last summer that she was resigning as governor of Alaska to keep from becoming “a lame duck” official. Some folks wondered if there might be other, unnamed reasons behind her sudden decision to quit -- and they think they may have received a clue last week, via ABC News. A “conservative” estimate of Palin’s accumulated royalties, fees and salary since leaving that office is up around twelve million dollars now – a sum of 100 times more than her yearly wages ($125,000) as governor. This amount includes income from her bestselling book (with another one in the works), two television shows and several extremely high-paying speaking engagements.
Question: With this discovery by ABC News, has your opinion changed about Sarah Palin’s motive for resigning her Alaskan office in the middle of her term? |

A federal judge in Wisconsin has declared that the US law authorizing a National Day of Prayer is unconstitutional. US District Judge Barbara Crabb said the federal statute violates the First Amendment's prohibition on government endorsement of religion. The National Day of Prayer was first authorized by Congress in 1952. Since 1988, the date has been set as the first Thursday in May. The judge stayed her own injunction pending the resolution of any appeals. “I understand that many may disagree with [my] conclusion and some may even view it as critical of prayer or those who pray. That is unfortunate,” Judge Crabb wrote. "The government may not endorse a religious message. A determination that the government may not endorse a religious message is not a determination that the message itself is harmful, unimportant, or undeserving of dissemination,” she said. “Rather it is part of the effort to carry out the Founders’ plan of preserving religious liberty to the fullest extent possible in a pluralistic society.” Question: Do you agree with Judge Crabb's ruling? |

Torry Hansen shocked the world last week when she sent her 7-year-old son that she had adopted from Russia back to his home country on a one-way flight. She paid a tour guide that she found online $200 to pick him up at the airport and take him back to the orphanage where she got him. Hansen says that the child was violent with her and other family members, even threatening to burn the house down with them in it. As of this morning, Russia has halted all American adoptions, and it is unclear whether or not Hansen broke any laws.
Question: Should Torry Hansen face criminal charges for sending her 7-year-old adopted son on a one-way flight back to Russia? |
