We all know her. We love and admire her. And yet we hate her for her determination. Yes, I’m talking about the woman who shaves her legs everyday. For years, I have wished for such motivation. That I, too, would be sharp enough in the morning to steady my body in the awkward “propped” position it requires to contribute such love and care towards my femininity. But I’m not. Year after year, boyfriend after boyfriend continue to brush their hands along my shins as we lay on the couch, in hopes that maybe I have had a change of heart this winter and decided that wildabeast wasn’t “in” this time around. Shaving makes me feel feminine, and I love the feeling of slipping into clean sheets at night with silky sleek legs. But sometimes a girl just doesn’t have the time! Or the energy! But I just happened to stumble upon something that other day that may have, in fact, changed my life.

When a person marries or commits to someone who they feel is "The One" (Mr. Right), they assume that they will never experience similar feelings toward another person again in their life. Unfortunately, except for chick-flick love stories, this is not always true. If it were, the divorce rate would decrease, less domestic violence would occur and fewer antacids would be sold.
The truth is that we are all human and when we allow ourselves to be, we are quite vulnerable to developing significant feelings for others. The telling factor in defining our character is how we act upon what we feel.
When you meet someone new and exciting (Mr. Right Now) what you are experiencing is the WOW phenomenon, someone has shown an interest in you and you are flattered. At this point, you and your significant other may have become so "comfortable" in your relationship that you have begun to take each other for granted and have stopped courting one another. Spontaneity has given way to standardization. Romance to routine. Yours may have become a relationship of convenience and obligation, opening the door for this dilemma to materialize.

A few weeks ago, I had coffee with a friend who told me an interesting personal story about her husband and his cancer treatment. It so amazed me, I can’t help but share it in this blog. This is the short of it: Bob has been diagnosed with lymphoma and has been treated with chemotherapy various times. During this past year, my friend discovered multiple tumors on his torso and, once again, they scheduled another bout of chemo with his oncologist. Soon after, Bob and Missy (my friend) discussed the possibility of trying an alternative treatment due to the debilitating side effects of chemo…just watch ‘The Bucket List’ and you’ll see what these people have to go through. They came upon a product that contains zeolites and after a few months of daily use, the tumors had shrank. Of course, I had never heard the word zeolites and wanted more information about this supplementt. This is where things get a bit sticky. Missy is an entrepeneur. She started a company from scratch and sold it for $1 million! In other words, she’s got the knack (or the magic) for sales and marketing. The product that Bob uses is manufactured and sold by the company, Waiora. There are many alternative cancer treatments that have proven to work for some people. This one particular product which uses zeolites, Natural Cellular Defense (NCD), claims to be clinically formulated to boost the immune system by removing heavy metals, toxins and other harmful substances, as well as, balancing the body’s pH levels. This product does not claim to cure cancer. |

To Experience the real Grand Canyon, leave the rim behind and head for the river.

words + photos by Ellen Barone
“Everybody ready?” asked Travis Pearce, the trip’s head boatman, as the rumble of the first rapid grew louder. New to the game, my husband and I checked our life vests, tightened the straps on our hats and sunglasses, reached for the handholds and put our quick-dry clothed selves into the roiling maw of the Colorado River.
Most people know the Grand Canyon as America’s most scenic hole in the ground. But few know that deep in the heart of the gigantic slash there exists a primeval world of heaving and boiling white-water rapids, plummeting waterfalls, emerald pools, graceful ferns, cherry-red monkeyflowers, sandy beaches and billion-year-old rocks.
The rim gets the attention for its mile-high vistas, mule rides and historic lodges, but far below the tourist throngs, the swift flowing Colorado River delivers the real adventure.
Navigating a 2,000-foot descent in 277 twisting miles of canyon, the river muscles its way through sculpted rock, ancient lava flows, massive waves, swirling currents and a tangle of more than 160 white-water rapids. There’s no shortage of thrills for the adventurous few who opt to check off a Bucket Lister and ride the river.
Our Western River Expeditions flotilla consisted of two boats – 37-foot motorized rafts made from five neoprene tubes – four friendly boatmen and 30 adventurous passengers of varying ages, interests, walks of life, and nationalities. There were three-generations of the Thompson family (ages 14 to 72); a middle-aged accountant from Wisconsin, a trio of fun-loving Brits, a Massachusetts doctor and his 12-year-old son, a Baltimore lawyer celebrating his 65th birthday and his sophisticated, but amenable, wife who’d never been camping a day in her life.

Kate Hudson turns up the heat and looks very un-Kate-Hudson-like on the newest cover of W, which is releasing its Passion Issue on "the season's sleekest, sexiest looks." She looks incredible!
