Today at 3:15 PST, I'll be on the nationally syndicated Lynne Breidenbach Show, discussing what's going on in our skies. Over the weekend, three Moroccan terror suspects were arrested by Italian police for running a "terror school" out of a mosque near Perugia. Among the items seized in the raid were barrels of chemicals as well as a manual for piloting a 747 Boeing airplane. I will also be discussing the new 9/11 security bill and how, and why, the Democratic majority in Congress blocked the so-called "John Doe" amendment which protects Good Samaritans from being sued -- by groups like CAIR (The Council on American-Islamic Relations) -- for reporting suspicious behavior in public places and on airplanes. Read Debra Burlingame's commentary in the New York Daily News: Disarmed by the Dems: Congressional leaders fail to protect terror tipsters from insane lawsuits: |

As reported in the Huffington Post, an Australian survey concludes that for every extra year of education a woman has, her husband has a higher chance of reporting being happy with his life. Shane Matthew Worner of Australia National University takes this one step further and says a woman's earning power is her most desirable asset. The study is based on a sample of 5,000 Australians. Mariane Pearl is suing Al Qaeda and other parties including Pakistan's biggest bank for kidnapping, torturing and murdering her husband, Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl. The lawsuit is seeking damages deemed "appropriate" by the court -- so as to prevent Al Qaeda from committing similar acts. In addition to various terrorists as defendants, the suit names Habib Bank Limited, one of the biggest banks in Pakistan. From Reuters: |

I just read a blog at Handbag.com, Smart Women Aren't Sexy. The blogger describes a male coworker's opinion that smarts in a woman just isn't sexy, and that many women dumb themselves down on dates as to not appear intimidating. So I decided to have a similar conversation with a male friend of mine, over a drink or two. Or five. He's smart, attractive, and educated. He also never seems to have problems meeting girls. I read him the blog and he told me that it wasn't true. Smarts in a woman is sexy. He said that only an unintelligent man would be intimidated by a smart woman. Then he warned me that if our conversation continued I'd lose respect for him and even question our friendship. He told me that guys talk about a lot of things girls were never meant to hear. So of course, I had to hear it. I convinced him to continue, and so he added, "Now if only there were such a thing as a smart, sexy woman. They don't exist outside of the movies."
Excuse me? He even tried to assure me that most men would agree there is no such thing as really pretty, truly smart girl. ...Outside of the movies. Instead of strangling him, I decided to listen. This is, after all, an ambitious, articulate guy. And maybe a real pig. First, he defined sexy girls for me... |

How refreshing to see a woman, age 81, elegantly attired in conservative dress and coat, sensible shoes and smart matching hat, and delivers a speech with words longer than one syllable. Crowds wait at every turn to greet her, cheer her, and take her picture. And she has been doing this consistently for over 50 years. God Bless the Queen of England. Our United States royalty…well let’s see now, who would that be this week? Pop Princesses Britney and Paris come to mind. Stand up and take a bow you two, if sober. While Paris is planning her wardrobe for jail, and Britney trying to stay away from a another stint in REHABilitation (and these two are only in their 20s), it would behoove them to take a few lessons from Queen Elizabeth II. Britney, you are not so Lovely in your Slovenliness. |
